A recent drag race event at Rock Raceway in Brakpan descended into chaos when a BMW M4 stunt led to a serious collision with a Volkswagen Golf R. Despite the severity of the crash, no major injuries were reported, though both vehicles were severely damaged.
The incident occurred as the M240i and Golf R lined up for their race. Before the official start, the M4 driver began a drift demonstration in the adjacent arena, cutting across the track and into the path of the accelerating vehicles. The Golf R, unable to see past the M240i ahead, collided head-on with the M4.
While the M240i driver managed to avoid the collision entirely, the M4 and Golf R were left severely damaged and had to be removed by forklift.This incident underscores the need for strict safety protocols at drag racing events. Proper marshalling and clear communication are vital to preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of participants and spectators. Criticism has mounted against The Rock Raceway for what some have called inadequate safety measures.
