SAN ANTONIO — It’s been 71 long years since the Booker T. Washington basketball program played for state championship.The Golden Eagles punched their ticket to the UIL Class 4A state title game with a 75-69 win over Boerne in the semifinals Friday afternoon at the Alamodome.

No. 1 Faith Family is the defending state champion and is seeking its third title since 2019. The Eagles are making their fifth consecutive state tournament appearance and defeated Amarillo Randall 67-47 in the other semifinal game Friday afternoon. Faith Family has won 12 consecutive games, and its last hiccup came against Link Academy , which is currently No. 7 in the national rankings from USA Today.

There will plenty at stake for Washington on Saturday evening. The Golden Eagles are seeking the first state title since 1946, when the program won the Prairie View Interscholastic League 4A crown.
