Vodacom South Africa enjoys a 3.2% service revenue growth, reaching R16.2 billion for the quarter ending December 31, 2024. This growth is attributed to strong performance in the prepaid segment, successful seasonal campaigns, and a 40.6% surge in data traffic.

The Vodacom Group released a trading statement for the quarter ended 31 December 2024, highlighting a 3.2% service revenue growth for Vodacom South Africa . This translates to R16.2 billion in service revenue, up from R15.7 billion during the same period last year. Vodacom South Africa attributes this growth to a robust performance in the prepaid segment and positive expansion beyond mobile services.

'The improved Vodacom South Africa performance was driven by several factors, including successful seasonal campaigns, an enhanced consumer environment in the prepaid segment, and a significant 40.6% increase in data traffic,' said Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom Group. 'Service revenue from sources beyond mobile also emerged as a key highlight, surging by 11.3% and contributing R2.8 billion to South Africa's total revenue of R16.2 billion.'During the three months ending 31 December 2024, Vodacom South Africa invested R3.2 billion in capital expenditure, a notable increase from the R2.4 billion recorded in the same period of 2023. Joosub anticipates an investment range of R11 to R11.2 billion for the current financial year. The mobile network operator experienced a 3.9% rise in mobile contract customer revenue, reaching R6.1 billion, supported by a price increase implemented in the first quarter. Vodacom South Africa's average revenue per user (ARPU) from mobile contract customers climbed 2.3% to R306, also attributed to the price adjustment. 'We added 61,000 contract customers during the quarter, expanding our contract base to 7.0 million, representing a 2.0% growth,' stated Vodacom South Africa. Vodacom South Africa credits much of its prepaid segment's success, which saw a 5.6% growth, to its seasonal campaigns. Notably, the 'V-UP' summer campaign engaged 13.7 million customers, incentivizing participation through rewards and prizes. 'These seasonal campaigns effectively capitalized on an improved consumer spending environment, leading to prepaid data revenue of R3.8 billion in the quarter, an impressive 15.5% increase,' remarked Vodacom South Africa. Data traffic on Vodacom South Africa's network surged by 40.6% year-on-year. While the number of data customers remained relatively stable at around 27.6 million, the average data usage per smart device skyrocketed by 37% to 5.3GB. Furthermore, the number of 4G and 5G connections on Vodacom's network expanded by 4.9% to reach 24.5 million. Vodacom South Africa's fixed service revenue witnessed an 8.5% increase compared to the same period last year, or a more pronounced 16.3% when excluding low-margin wholesale transit revenue. 'This positive outcome was driven by robust fiber revenue growth across both the consumer and Vodacom Business segments,' the company stated. 'Homes and businesses connected reached 189,000, while our own fiber network extended to 166,000 homes and businesses.'
