Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube announced on Monday the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric results , revealing a historic pass rate of 87.3%. This marks a significant improvement from the 82.9% pass rate achieved in 2023 and the 80.1% recorded in 2022. Gwarube expressed her satisfaction with the performance of all provinces, noting that each province improved on its 2023 results, with every province achieving a pass rate above 84%.
Three provinces achieved a rounded-off pass rate of 85%, and the Northern Cape emerged as the most improved province. No-fee schools also demonstrated significant progress, increasing their pass rate from 81% in 2023 to 85.8% in 2024.Gauteng led the nation with a remarkable pass rate of 88.4%, the third highest in the country. The province celebrated over 66,000 matriculants achieving their qualifications, while the Eastern Cape surpassed 45,000 successful learners. Minister Gwarube highlighted KwaZulu Natal as achieving the highest number of Bachelor passes, exceeding 84,000, followed by Gauteng with over 66,000 and the Eastern Cape with over 45,000. A formal announcement ceremony will be held in Randburg, Johannesburg, where top achievers will be recognized. The event will bring together parents, guardians, teachers, and representatives from all education departments across the nation
