Village home to Lancashire's oldest pub ready for battle as council looks to turn farmland into housing
On the border of West Lancashire lies the peaceful village of Lydiate. Home to open farmland and picturesque scenery.
Some 500 people have already joined the group online with posters to be distributed to those in the area who may not know of the plans. Some of those concerned neighbours gathered together on Friday to warn they will not accept the land being lost without a battle. The villagers protesting the plans say that development will already add too much strain on the area’s infrastructure and that going beyond that will make things much worse. Nicola said: “My house has flooded a couple of times already which is devastating. I’m disabled so it’s not as easy as just moving everything up high to deal with it.
“It will be dangerous. As far as I’m concerned there is a risk to life. The schools have big signs saying parking here is going to endanger a life. The schools that are right next to each other, it comes to a standstill. When you got little kiddies and they run out, it’s dangerous. It’s going to be devastating.”
