Landlord has a week to bring his property up to fire code before the city does it for him and sends him the bill
The owner of a small Cook Street apartment building has been given a week to bring his property up to fire code before the city steps in to do it for him and sends him the bill.
Good has been told to replace an emergency fire panel, ensure the fire alarm system in the building is in full working order in compliance with all applicable codes, regulations and bylaws, and build the west fire escape up to the standard of the B.C. building code. He must do all that before noon on May 12. If he doesn’t, the city will bring the building into compliance and consider the costs incurred as a debt owed to Victoria.
Sabell said the building has been in a regular state of disrepair and fire safety protection systems have not been maintained.
