Opinion: Despite inflation promises dating back to April, the latest word is September at the earliest
It was way back on April 21 when Horgan announced that Finance Minister Selina Robinson “has been directed by me to look at efforts to bring forward initiatives to assist with inflation.”“I don’t want to say we’ll have something to say in a few weeks, because then the questions will start tomorrow,” the premier told reporters. “But minister Robinson is seized of this .
“That’s a failing of mine, “ he continued, “wanting to be genuine and respond to a question when it is asked to me.”He gets asked questions on hot-button issues like the cost of living and must let on how the government is doing something about it. “Yes, we are concerned about how it’s affecting people here in British Columbia,” she told the house in late April. “There is concern about the rising costs of necessities like food and housing.”Article content
Apart from that Horgan-ism, the premier did say he was “more concerned about the inflationary impacts on other, important, life-altering products like food.Article content“The minister of finance has been tasked by me and the cabinet to bring forward a basket of initiatives because this is not a short-term issue.”
This time he suggested the relief measures would include a climate action tax credit or some other form of inflation credit.
