This is an increase from 2019 and 2018, when the total for both years was fewer than 50.

The Ministry of Education previously revealed that an average of about seven in every 1,000 students in primary schools, secondary schools and IHLs have been caught for smoking and vaping offences. Since 2018, the purchase, possession and use of vaporisers have been outlawed in Singapore. This includes purchases made through the Internet and from overseas.

HSA said it monitors local online retail sites, social media platforms and messaging apps for suspected peddling of e-vaporisers and their refill cartridges. In 2022, more than 2,600 such postings were removed. The number of people caught for using and possessing e-cigarettes increased nearly fourfold from 1,266 in 2020 to 4,916 in 2022, according to HSA figures.
