Charles Tupper was a Father of Confederation and prime minister from May 1 to July 8, 1896. In 1907, Tupper became a member of the British Privy Council. Perhaps naming a street after him was an attempt to curry favour in Britain? The block of streets lying between Jameson and Bay streets were developed by the J.E. Burchill Company. Previously referred to as Jamieson Street. There is no record why the Burchill Company named these streets.
Bryan Street was named for Bart Bryan, one of the local steel company staff during the early days of the plant.Cameron Street was named for Alex Cameron, but he later moved to Victoria Road.
