Department of Higher Education has confirmed the re-registration of Educor colleges, which include Damelin, CityVarsity, and Lyceum College.

This decision comes after a thorough review, and the colleges are now on strict timelines to comply with regulations.Higher Education Director-General Nkosinathi Sishi announced the decision to allow Educor Colleges to resume operations. He emphasised that the re-registration was made on humanitarian grounds.
Educor, which caters to over 50 000 students across its various campuses, has faced allegations of poor management and non-payment of staff. The accusations of substandard education delivery and the unresolved grievances from students raised concerns about the colleges’ future.revealed that the four colleges – Damelin, CityVarsity, Icesa City Campus, and Lyceum College – had not submitted tax clearance certificates and financial statements for 2021 and 2022.
He pointed out further issues, including poor teaching quality, unqualified staff, and unresolved complaints from students about administrative failures and corruption. While the re-registration is a significant step, Educor Colleges’ challenges are far from over. Nzimande also mentioned that Educor’s enrolment figures were misrepresented, with the actual student count at around 13 000, contrary to the 50 000 claimed.
