Lower than anticipated winds and cooler weather has helped matters Monday in central Newfoundland, according to a provincial fire duty officer.

The heaviest rain is forecast along the south coast, the Burin and much of the Avalon with 20 to 40 mm forecast, with the potential of localized amounts in the range of 40 to 60-plus mm. Jeff Motty, provincial duty officer with the provincial forestry division, says crews got some good news Sunday.
