While there has been some international criticism of Germany's seeming reluctance to commit to sending battle tanks, this is a huge step both militarily and socially for Berlin. Many sources have suggested that Berlin was negotiating with the US for a similar commitment to send some Abrams. Let's not forget, outside the US, Berlin has been one of the biggest donors to Ukraine since the start of the war. Russia has been"panicked" by Germany's decision to send 14 tanks to Ukraine, according to analysis byPresident Zelenksyy wants 300 tanks to push Russia out of Ukraine, and while Germany's announcement represents only a fraction of that, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has opened the door for more tank shipments.
He said:"America does not want to be seen at the forefront and play to the Kremlin's agenda that this is East versus West, America versus Russia."
