RCMP have charged two men in Yarmouth with human trafficking.YARMOUTH, N.S. – The RCMP have charged two Yarmouth men with human trafficking, saying an investigation has identified five victims. The RCMP are unsure yet if there are more victims.
“I can confirm that five charges were laid relating to five victims, however, the investigation is ongoing and that number may very well change going forward,” said RCMP Cpl. Chris Marshall. An investigation was launched after the Nova Scotia human trafficking unit received information June 9, via its tip line, that a woman was being trafficked by a Yarmouth man.“During the course of the operation, investigators determined that the man was involved with trafficking numerous victims for both sex and labour,” reads an Aug. 5 RCMP news release. “Investigators also gathered information and evidence that a second Yarmouth man was also involved.
“The publication ban is to protect the victims, not the accused,” Marshall said. “However, in this case, we have no way of identifying the accused without possibly identifying some of the victims, which is why we haven’t released any information on the accused.”One man has been charged with 33 offences, which include:• receiving material benefits from sexual services ;
