Two people died and several others were injured, some seriously, when a car veered out of control and crashed on the R334 in Uitenhage, north of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape on Sunday afternoon, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 paramedics responded at 2.38pm to reports of a serious car crash on the R334 Daniel Pienaar Street in Uitenhage, Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle lost control resulting in a rollover with passengers being ejected in the process. Paramedics assessed all the patients on [the] scene and found the two people had sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on the scene.”

Another person was found to have sustained serious injuries and required the treatment of an emergency care practitioner. Four other people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Once stabilised, all the patients were transported to hospital for further treatment, Herbst said.
