JOHN'S, N.L. — It will be a short-lived but bitter and risky two days this weekend.
“When you have windchill values that are below -28 and -29, that’s when we start to have a heightened risk of frostbite on exposed skin, and your skin can freeze within 10 to 30 minutes,” says SaltWire Network weather specialist Allister Aalders. Windchill values will reach -30 C by late Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4, in St. John’s. In the central and western regions of the island of Newfoundland, windchill values will reach between -30 C and -35 C.
Dangerous wind chills develop tonight and persist much of Saturday. Risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Onshore flurries/squalls off west-facing coastlines will also make travel tricky this weekend. Temperatures moderate Sunday. Stay safe!
