A combination of retirement, injury, sabbatical and suspension has created both havoc and opportunity for Canada’s national bobsleigh teams.
Gone from the men’s team are pilot Justin Kripps, who joined the coaching staff, pilot Chris Spring, who is nursing a knee injury and won’t race on the World Cup circuit this season, and a host of brakemen who have moved on, including Olympic medalists Ryan Sommer, Ben Coakwell and Cam Stones.
That means Canada’s World Cup sleds are currently in the hands of Austin, Appiah and Bianca Ribi, a newcomer to the top circuit.Article content The turnover at the end of this Olympic cycle has created opportunity for a wave of brakemen and women, some of whom had to wait in the wings, like Cyrus Gray.
