A 'dilapidated' Victorian cinema could be turned into housing under fresh plans. Plans have been put forward to convert the old cinema on Kenrick Street in Netherfield and demolish a neighbouring house, in order to create nine new homes.
At the corner of Kenrick Street and Wright Street, the building was formerly a cinema in the Victorian era, and has since been used as workshop and as a storage space. According to planning documents, the building is 'dilapidated' at the rear and so is the building set to be knocked down. Developers hope to "sympathetically convert the former cinema and workshop". The proposal would create two three-bed homes. Garden space will be provided.The workshop/ former cinema will be converted to form housing over three levels. The entrance for vehicles will be through the existing entrance from Wright Street and the opening will be widened.
A planning document, submitted on behalf of CP Development, said the development was considered 'appropriate' for the area. "The scale, form and sitting of the proposed development is such that the character and appearance of the area will not be harmed, and will enhance the current site and visual outlook."
