Tommy Fleetwood is hunting down a gold medal for Team Great Britain at the Paris Olympics after a superb second round left him tied at the top of the leaderboard. The Southport golfer delivered an impressive second-round 64, ending the day 11 under par at Le Golf National, sharing the top spot with Japan's Hideki Matsuyama and Open champion Xander Schauffele from the USA - himself a previous Olympic gold medal winner.
However, that eagle could easily have been an albatross after McIlroy sensationally holed out his second shot at the third, only to see the ball bounce back out of the hole. Two bogeys and two birdies resulted in McIlroy's teammate Shane Lowry shooting a second consecutive 71, positioning him in 43rd place. Everton fan Fleetwood , 33, will fancy his chances of clinching gold thanks to his previous good fortune at Le Golf National.
