Dear Diary: 'I know that the Grocery Rebate's one-time payment of $387 can be a transformative amount of money for a family in need.'
There are those who would criticize our decision to announce the Grocery Rebate at a Rabba Fine Foods, a grocer apparently on the “expensive” end of the sector. But I saw nothing amiss at the location we visited: $10 for a durian, $11 for a bottle of kombucha. These are easily a fraction of the prices you would find at even the most no-frills airport deli.
Throughout, we have faced a decidedly elitist opposition to these policies on the grounds that they are small and even tokenistic. But while my House of Commons colleagues may sneer at $500 as merely the price of lunch, I know that it can be a transformative amount of money for a family in need.
