A glance through the ages
Looking back at nostalgic pictures of our hometown can be a fascinating way to see how the lie of the land has changed over the years.

The image below, taken circa 1910, shows many of the original buildings which still including the popular Millstone.
When Darwen's three-day market - or outdoor market as it was known by locals - closed back in 2016 stallholders were forced to retreat to the indoor market. However, the market hall, which was opened in 1882, stands as a source of local pride. The building was used as a supermarket called Lodges before becoming vacant and is now home to Wetherspoons The Old Chapel. Holker House - to the right of the taxi firm and in front of the church - remains in use by Darwen Heritage Centre.
