Trending | The revamped Troyeville Hotel is worth the visit, writes Phumlani S Langa

stands as an institution of Joburg’s fine dining, just slightly east of the city centre but not so far east that you would consider it on the Rand somewhere.

The revamp came about as a result of our having taken a keen interest in a hotel of significant heritage, a hotel that’s been around for yearsRaul De Lima is the co-owner and managing director of the hotel and has been in this role for six months. “We invested a significant amount of money in the property to ensure that, from top to bottom, we will have a new product – refreshed and looking spick and span, inviting and certainly fitting the rustic and industrial look, complemented by elements that were part of the building’s history,” the laid back De Lima says.

The Troyeville Hotel attracts a broad spectrum of consumers and they even have a lot of business people visiting their premises for lunch during the week.“We also have families consisting of up to three generations visiting over the weekend. Naturally, grandparents reflect on yesteryear. They share a lot of anecdotes with their children and the grandchildren about how they used to visit the hotel and the significance that the hotel had in their lives,” De Lima says.
