The Flash is DC's big multiverse movie, and while it takes place in an alternate version of Man of Steel, it also has a big Batman v Superman nod.
The Flash movie is paying tribute to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in at least one key way. In The Flash, Barry Allen time travels to the past to prevent the murder of his mother, Nora Allen and the framing of his father, Henry . In doing so, Barry causes unexpected consequences for his timeline, with General Zod once again arriving to terraform Earth into a new Krypton.

The Flash's homage to Batman v Superman's missile scene does raise interesting questions about what other parallels will be shown in the movie's multiversal story. With that said, The Flash primarily using Man of Steel as its basis makes sense for a few reasons.
