Hospitals and facilities across the country have been forced to cut services because of a shortage of nurses and doctors. “The entire country is in trouble,' said one health-care advocate, who is calling on Ottawa to do more.

The Liberal government’s promise to hire 7,500 nurses and doctors won’t solve the current staffing crisis facing the country, health-care advocates warn. Instead, Ottawa should be focusing on clearing the backlog of international nurses waiting for registration, which is estimated to be around 26,000, said Doris Grinspun, CEO of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario.iPolitics
