Erik ten Hag is reportedly set to implement a 'Ronaldo rule' at Manchester United following the superstar's acrimonious departure from Old Trafford. 😳 More here! ▶

In November, it was claimed that David de Gea was in talks to sign a new contract with the Red Devils, but would be forced to take a significant pay cut in the process. With the shot-stopper said to currently earn £375 000 a week at the Theatre of Dreams, his new wage is reportedly set to be £200 000 every seven days.

This decision has been labelled by some as the"Ronaldo rule" after the Portuguese forward's enormous contract worth £480 000 was terminated in November, much to the relief of some in the United hierarchy. It is said that biggest weekly salary United will offer going forward will be no more than £200 000.

The cost-cutting rule will impact a number of players who could begin negotiations over a new deal in the near future, including Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred, whose contracts all expire at the end of the next campaign. There is a concern that Ten Hag's big call could backfire as Rashford, who has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain of late, would not get any increase on his current wages of £200 000 a week if he signs a new deal. The report adds that established Red Devils stars such as Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro already earn under the new maximum weekly wage.
