Driver, 18, facing charges of careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm

Manitoulin OPP have laid charges related to a June 26 fatal crash on Highway 17 that claimed the life of a Nairn Centre man.

On June 26, Manitoulin OPP and Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 17 at Sand Bay Road. “Investigation revealed that a vehicle had rear-ended another vehicle,” OPP said. “One of the drivers of the vehicle was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and later succumbed to their injuries.”

The crash occurred around 1 p.m. that day and kept Highway 17 closed for several hours while police investigated. The driver of the other vehicle, an 18-year-old from Espanola, sustained minor injuries in the crash and has been charged with one count each of careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm.
