Marshall Feit firmly believes that rural Nova Scotia deserves to make more room for a diverse music scene. | SaltWire

Locals of all ages enjoyed the music at the vibrant Tatafest this past weekend in Tatamagouche. - Chelsey GouldTATAMAGOUCHE, N.S. — Marshall Feit firmly believes that rural Nova Scotia deserves to make more room for a diverse music scene.

Growing up in Fredericton, Feit said he had access to four all-age venues, adding that he got to attend punk and rap shows as a youth. This accessibility to a no-booze space was important for Tatafest, allowing all ages to attend and volunteer.Another aim is to bring in BIPOC artists, which Feit said can be delicate due to the different cultural and rural landscape.

Both amateur and professional artists came from across Atlantic Canada, including headliner Aquakultre, who brought his family from Halifax.“Artists don't have to feel like they're just going out to work, in coming here to perform," said Feit. “It's supposed to be something that involves everyone … through music, there’s community building.”
