Sixty percent of the fire raging on the front face of Table Mountain has been contained, according to SANParks. The fire has prompted closures of trails and roads, including the Platteklip Gorge trail and Contour Path, as well as Tafelberg Road at Kloof Nek Road. Visitors are urged to avoid the area until further notice.
SANParks Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) reported that 60% of the fire burning along the front face of Table Mountain has been contained. In addition to the Platteklip Gorge trail, the Contour Path across the front face of Table Mountain has also been closed for today and tomorrow, SANParks confirmed. 'SANParks rangers and City of Cape Town law enforcement officials are on scene assisting with visitor control.
' The organisation also urged visitors to avoid the area and not proceed beyond the upper cable station until further notice while firefighting crews and aerial resources continue to combat the blaze. Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has also confirmed that the cableway is still operating at this time.It has been confirmed that Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) has mobilised ground firefighting crews and aerial resources, including a Blackhawk and spotter plane, to combat the blaze, both of which are already on scene battling against increasing winds. Two or three choppers are reportedly loading water from Camps Bay and Glen Beach while ground crews, including City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Service, Working on Fire, NCC Wildfire and VWS, work to contain the fire.A road closure has also been effected on Tafelberg Road, at Kloof Nek Road. Motorists are advised to avoid Kloof Nek Road if travelling in that direction
