Galjoen, a South African sustainably sourced seafood restaurant, plans to open its doors in Cape Town later this year in Cape Town’s trendy East City district. The restaurant is the brainchild of chefs Anouchka Horn and Neil Swart from the Belly of the Beast fine dining restaurant in Harrington Street. This reservation-only dining experience, to be located on Harrington Street as well, will host a set tasting menu featuring only local and responsibly caught seafood.
Galjoen will feature a semi-industrial space that creates the illusion of sitting in a harbour, with touches of 80s seafood restaurant decor. The restaurant will serve only small groups of guests so the kitchen can focus on delivering delicious plates from a set menu that will put the freshness of the food at the centre of each creation.
The menu is not available to the public. Exclusive seats can be booked for lunch between Wednesdays and Saturdays at R500 per person, and for dinner between Tuesdays and Saturdays at R690 per person. In the meantime, a few products have been made available for purchase to crowdfund the launch of Galjoen. These include pre-booking your seats, buying vouchers, sponsoring a chair , and buying a brick, the proceeds of which will go toward the construction of the restaurant.
