SFD) officials confirmed the substance found inside multiple suspicious envelopes at Seward Park synagogues Friday afternoon was not a hazard to the community.

This photo shows Seattle Fire Department officials on the scene of a HAZMAT response that occurred at a Seward Park synagogue on Nov. 3, 2023. Seattle Fire Department officials confirmed the substance found inside multiple suspicious envelopes at Seward Park synagogues Friday afternoon was not a hazard to the congregation or community.

Everyone who touched the substance reportedly feels okay afterward, according to the congregation representative. Both Seattle police and fire officials were called to the scene of the synagogue, where they are continuing their investigation. Shortly after Knowles arrived at the scene, she learned that another synagogue located a few blocks from Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation also received an envelope containing similar documents and a white, powder-like substance.

"We don’t know what it was, and all our tests came up negative, and it was not determined to be harmful," said Cuerpo. "This came in at the request of SPD, where the person originally called 911 when they found the envelope. They wanted SFD to run tests to make sure the substance was not hazardous."
