Police officers narrowly escaped the burning patrol car after a Volkswagen Passat crashed into it
Two police officers jumped out of the patrol car moments before it became a fireball after a smash with a VW Passat. The incident happened at around 8.55pm on Friday, September 8, as police were travelling along Woodchurch Road in Prenton to an emergency incident.
The VW Passat was travelling in the opposite direction at speed when it collided with the police vehicle. Police told the ECHO the patrol car was travelling with its blue lights and siren on.The driver of the Passat was found a short while later and he and the police officers were taken to hospital suffering from back and neck injuries. A man has now been charged with failing to stop after a road accident, driving a vehicle without due care and attention and failing to report an accident.
Niall Sinfield, of Speedwell Road, Claughton, was bailed to appear in court in Wirral on Tuesday, September 26. A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We have charged a 24-year-old man following a road traffic collision between a Volkswagen Passat and a marked police car on Woodchurch Road in Prenton on Friday, 8th September.
"Following the collision the police car caught fire. The two police officers inside the vehicle were able to get out with only minor injuries. "Niall Sinfield, of Speedwell Road, Claughton, has been charged with failing to stop after a road accident, driving a vehicle without due care and attention and failing to report an accident. He was bailed to appear in court in Wirral on Tuesday 26th September."
