Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe has joined Tshwane rivals SuperSport United on a short-term loan deal. The 30-year-old midfielder was not getting enough playing time at Sundowns despite being a senior player. The move sees Maboe reunite with former club SuperSport United, where he spent several seasons earlier in his career.
Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Lebohang Maboe has completed a move to Tshwane rivals SuperSport United on a short-term loan until the end of the current campaign. The 30-year-old midfielder was heavily linked with a possible loan move to Sekhukhune United but Matsatsantsa came from nowhere to sign him before the local transfer window slammed shut on Tuesday at midnight.
Maboe has been with Sundowns since 2018 and won a total of nine trophies, including six league titles, during his time at Chloorkop. Despite being considered one of the senior players within the current squad, Maboe was not getting as much game time as he would have liked with just 10 appearances this season. The Tshwane outfit also attempted to re-sign Thapelo Maseko on a short-term deal but Sundowns rejected the offer. Maseko has struggled to replicate the same form that caught the eye of many since joining Sundowns from Matsatsantsa. He has further lost his place in the Bafana Bafana squad as he continues to struggle for game time at Sundowns. Maboe temporarily leaves Sundowns having featured in 183 official matches, scoring 20 goals and providing 23 assists.Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly loaned out Bongani Sam after the former Orlando Pirates player failed to get game time this season. Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has said that it was a very busy festive travel period in 2024, with records showing great recovery. The highly anticipated Soweto derby will be Nasreddine Nabi’s and Jose Riviero’s introduction. Some big names could return. Olympian Bayanda Walaza will study at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) instead of his first choice, University of Pretoria (UP/Tuks).
