Sundowns coach Mngqithi explains why Zwane is not starting matches
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has said captain Themba Zwane 's workload must be managed as the club competes in six competitions this season.Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has defended the move to use midfielder Themba Zwane sparingly so far this season, even though the move has triggered some criticism for starting influential captain on the bench.
Zwane has started only one match out of the four he has played, and was an unused substitute in Sundowns' CAF Champions League game against Mbabane Swallows last Saturday. In the semifinals of the top eight tournament, he played the last 17 minutes in the first leg fixture against Stellenbosch, which Downs lost 1-0 at home, also last month. The seasoned midfielder started for Bafana Bafana in back-to-back 2025 Afcon qualifiers last week, but he was back on the bench for Sudnowns in their 2-0 Betway Premiership Tshwane derby win over SuperSport United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.
“It's something that's going to happen this season up until you think there's a problem, but there is no problem," he retorted.
