Mngqithi fears handing new signing Rayners an immediate start, may destablise Sundowns dressing room
Having gone three games without scoring, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has admitted he may be tempted to start with new striker Iqraam Rayners as Bafana Ba Style start their CAF Champions League campaign this weekend.
Downs will face off against Mbabane Swallows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday, in the first leg matches of the final preliminary round. Mngqithi’s charges go into a continental battle on the back of three matches, in which they failed to score a single goal.Mngqithi started his first match as head coach with Peter Shalulile, Tashreeq Matthews, and Lucas Ribeiro in attack in their 1-0 win over Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarterfinals last month.Mngqithi started with the same trio in the 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch in the first-leg semifinal in Pretoria.
Rayners played the last half an hour in Bafana Bafana’s opening 2025 Afcon qualifying match against Uganda in Soweto last week.
