For 50 years, the Sudbury Youth Orchestra has played a vital role in the musical development of hundreds of young string musicians.
“Participation in the SYO not only hones the musical and technical skills of the string players who take part, but also helps them to develop critical and creative thinking skills, self-discipline, self-confidence, and a host of social and interpersonal skills,” said Arrowsmith. Arrowsmith grew up in Sudbury in a time he said was a “hot-bed” of musical learning and performance and he benefited from lessons with talented teachers and the chance to participate in musical events.
“I moved back to Sudbury in 2005 to take up a full-time post at Cambrian College,” he said. “It was then that I also began working with the Sudbury Youth Orchestra, and I've been privileged to do so ever since.”
