Sudbury students excel at Ontario music festival competition

Music students from 45 festivals across the province filmed their performances and uploaded videos to YouTube for festival adjudicators to review, with several of Sudbury’s young vocalists and musicians taking top honours

Several of Sudbury’s young vocalists and musicians had excellent results at the Ontario Music Festivals competition, which took place in June.

Music students from 45 festivals across the province filmed their performances and uploaded videos to YouTube for festival adjudicators to review. Vocalist Chloe Smilek won first place in Level 8, Grade B class and Brandon Wong placed first in the senior percussion competition.Lockerby Concert School Band earned second place in its category.Other Sudbury provincial finalists were Veronica Longe , Megan Misner , Ella Koskella , Ana Levecque Vishnu Krishnan Nair , Eric Huang , Chenan Lyu and Xiaoan Lian .

In a release from the Sudbury Music Festival, Louis Simão, festival co-ordinator, stated that despite the challenges of the pandemic, many participants were able to “attain the highest level of excellence at this year’s provincials.” Sudbury Music Festival builds on the 75-year tradition of the Kiwanis Festival of Sudbury.
