The retaining wall that separates one of the oldest Protestant cemeteries in Canada from the sidewalk on King Street in Windsor will be receiving some much-needed TLC in the new year.

The retaining wall around the Old Parish Burying Grounds in Windsor, which is one of the oldest Protestant cemeteries in Canada, will be getting upgraded in 2023.WINDSOR, N.S. — served as the main cemetery for the Town of Windsor until 1887. The earliest known burial in the cemetery was on Jan. 27, 1771.

Kathy Kehoe, the director of community development, brought forward a recommendation to council in September to approve repairing the stonework. “The overall intention of the project was that the original appearance of the wall is to be maintained as closely as possible and to reinstall the original stones,” she said.

“Completing the work when the air temperature is warmer and the ground is dry would be preferable, in their opinion, where they're working in such close proximity to grave sites.”
