Thanks to Bowen Byram’s overtime prowess, the Vancouver Giants now have a skater joining one of their former netminders leading a category in the Western Hockey League record books.
Byram joins Dustin Slade — Vancouver’s starting goalie for the 2005-06 league championship team — as a Giants record holder. In Vancouver’s 16-2 romp through the postseason that spring, Slade set league marks for most shutouts in one playoff , most consecutive shutouts in one playoff and most consecutive minutes without giving up a goal in one playoff .
The Wheat Kings set the league record for overtime wins last season, when they went 10-3. The previous mark was nine, set by the 1989-90 Portland Winterhawks and equalled by the 2004-05 Wheat Kings.
