Strasburg’s plans have not wavered, but by Tuesday afternoon, it became clear he and the team might not hammer out the specific terms by this weekend.

Asked about the situation in a radio interview on 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday, Mike Rizzo, the Nationals’ general manager, said: “He signed a seven-year deal. He’s got [3.5] years left on the deal and he’ll get paid for those four years on the deal until he makes a decision on what his future’s going to be.”Rizzo has not otherwise discussed the situation publicly.
