A lawyer representing Lisa Banfield told a federal-provincial inquiry that police failed to protect Nova Scotians by not following up on previous accusations of violence

In 2001 the gunman assaulted a teenager, in 2010 he threatened to kill his parents and in 2011 he told someone that he wanted to “kill a cop.”

A former neighbour of the gunman, Brenda Forbes, has testified she told police that Wortman had pinned Banfield to the ground in July 2013 but nothing was done about it. The lawyer says police should update their protocols and training so they are better equipped to respond to domestic violence.
