THUNDER BAY — Southbridge Care Homes has delayed the construction of a new long-term care facility in Thunder Bay to 2023.
It originally hoped to turn sod on a 160-bed long-term care home on Clavet Street early last year, but preparations were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. A spokesperson says Southbridge now hopes to go to tender next spring, "once the inflationary environment settles," and to start construction later in the year.
The three-storey building will replace the aging 131-bed Southbridge Lakehead nursing home on Vickers Street. According to the company, the new facility will be "innovative," and will provide a more comfortable environment for residents, with upgrades such as more expansive common areas, wider hallways, and more intimate dining areas.
