A seventh child has died after contracting Strep A, as go-fund-me page for critically ill Camila Rose Burns reaches £13,000
Strep A – also known as Group A streptococcus – is a type of bacterium commonly found in the throat and nose, as well as on the skin.
It follows warnings issued by health chiefs from the UK Health Security Agency on Friday, following the news severe cases of Strep A and scarlet fever were nearly five times higher among children than pre-pandemic. The UKHSA has advised those presenting with symptoms to refrain from attending nursery, school or work for at least 24 hours after they begin antibiotic treatment.
