President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the Special Investigating Unit to investigate several allegations of maladministration involving seven tenders in the Makana Local Municipality, in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape.the electrification project of the greater Makana and the re-appointment of the company MBB Consulting for water conservation among others.
SIU Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says beyond investigating maladministration, corruption and fraud, the SIU will identify systemic failures and recommend measures to prevent future losses in the municipality. “It will also look at contracts that were flagged by AGSA that were valued at above R200 000 but were not concluded by invited competitive bids in the report they had on 30 of June 2019.
