The SIU will probe alleged fraud, maladministration, and corruption.
It is alleged that between 2011 and 2017 the department irregularly awarded security tenders and appointed five managers without due process.
The department also allegedly paid suppliers for services not rendered for the Mapungubwe Arts Festival. Economic Freedom Fighters chairperson, Lawrence Mapulo and Democratic Alliance MPL, Franco Marx say the alleged corrupt activities have resulted in the department losing millions of rand. “As the EFF we are very shocked but we are not shocked. We have been saying this all along and we will be relieved when people are being arrested and have been shown the door. We want SIU to recover all the money that was spent irregularly,” explains Mapulo.
