The early music movement is essentially about exploration and discovering repertoire.
Vancouver has enjoyed many summer classical music projects, but none has lasted, or continuously reinvented itself, quite like Early Music Vancouver’s signature summer event, the Vancouver Bach Festival.
While the works of J. S. Bach still hold pride of place, Festival 2022 is also big on cross-fertilization. It starts as it means to go on with an aquatic grand opening program featuring the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and our town’s new poet laureate, Fiona T. Lam, that kicks off with a movement from Alasdair MacLean’s The Elizabeth Bishop Suite, then goes back to the Baroque with Handel’s Water Music and Georg Philipp Telemann’s Hamburger Ebb und Fluht at 7:30 p.m.
And both feature on the festival finale, Bach Kaleidoscope/Reimaginations, at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, back at the Chan.
