After two\u002Dyear hiatus, the festival twangs back with star\u002Dstudded lineup

The first Vancouver Folk Music Festival took place in 1978 in Stanley Park. In 1979, it relocated to its present Jericho Beach location. This year, the beloved event celebrates its 45th year.“Yes, the math is confusing, sometimes even for me,” says VFMF artistic and executive director Debbi Salmonsen. “But the event was established in 1977, so that’s 45 years this year.

“I’m so glad we’re going forward with a live event this year and having almost all of our experienced previous contractors return to help with everything from ordering the right number of porta-potties to having quality sound, food, et cetera,” she said. “The lineup is due to the fact that I was lucky to be able to retain as many of the artists that were booked for 2020 as possible, as well as getting on the phone very early and often to secure the acts I wanted.

Vancouver fans will be particularly pleased to see the return of former Po’girl member Allison Russell to the main stage. The Grammy-nominated vocalist will premiere material from her excellent album Outside Child.
