Some people say everything happens for a reason, and sometimes I say, as humans, we can find a reason for everything happening. A post about Ray Zinck brought back a flood of memories for me today.STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOS

A post from Gary Nickerson reminded me of those days this morning. It was a picture of him and Ray Zinck. Ray was an author, a journalist, a broadcaster and the part-owner of CJLS in Yarmouth. And he and Gary were an amazing team when it came to telling and sharing stories. It was for an RTNDA conference, and I got to visit Parliament Hill. In fact, I was lucky enough to have been given a behind-the-scenes tour by my Member of Parliament — Gerald Keddy representing South Shore-St. Margarets. He was a Progressive Conservative who was elected under the recently formed Conservative Party banner.

And it was in June of 2008. A few months before the federal election that brought the Conservatives to power not long after the Gomery Report and the sponsorship scandal. And Gerald told me to just watch what was happening. I have a feeling I wasn’t really supposed to be there. And I remember a distinctly foul-mouthed Rona Ambrose yelling at a television where Liberal Leader Stephan Dionne was on screen, discussing his Green Shift plan – a precursor to the Carbon Tax.
