Emergency services in Durban say they are responding to a large number of collisions

in light of the alertThe severe weather conditions which are already persisting in Ethekwini are also expected to hit other areas along the coast like KwaDukuza, Ray Nkonyeni and Umzumbe among others.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamison says they are currently at a scene where an unconfirmed number of vehicles have been washed away along the river banks in Pinetown on the west of the city. “I cannot confirm how many vehicles were washed away. Multiple organisations are looking for to be two vehicles. One vehicle had multiple people. We are now proceeding in one of the roads where the river is at capacity ,” says Jamison.Strategic and Emergency Evacuation Manager at the City’s Disaster Management Unit, Jotham Khumalo says people should take heed of weather warnings.

“As we have been communicating through our social media platforms for people to adhere to the weather warnings to take precautions … but most importantly, what we can say is that the city is prepared. We have had our job joint operation centre this morning activated. As we are here, we are in the joint operation centre. It was activated this morning.
