Scottish Labour blasted it as a 're-heated announcement' which 'will come as cold comfort to the hundreds of thousands currently waiting in pain on NHS waiting lists.'

The Scottish Government has vowed that £30 million in funding to clear NHS waiting lists built up during the covid pandemic will reduce waiting times.

The Scottish Liberal Democrats said "to pretend that long waits are just down to the virus is misleading." The funding comes after then first minister Humza Yousaf pledged £100 million to reduce waiting times in October 2023, saying at the time this cash could remove an estimated 100,000 patients from NHS waiting lists over three years.Speaking on a visit to Ninewells Hospital’s ophthalmology ward in Dundee, Gray said: “This initial investment of £30 million will target reductions to national backlogs that built up through the pandemic.

Scottish Labour health spokesperson Jackie Baillie said: “All investment in our NHS is to be welcomed, but this re-heated announcement will come as cold comfort to the hundreds of thousands currently waiting in pain on NHS waiting lists.
