Scopa to summons police officer tasked with probing Eskom corruption

Brigadier Jap Burger was named by former Eskom CEO, Andre de Ruyter, as the police officer to whom he reported findings of a covert intelligence-gathering exercise at the power utility.

CAPE TOWN - A retired police officer tasked with investigating corruption at Eskom is to be summoned to appear before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts .

Burger was named by former Eskom CEO, Andre de Ruyter, as the police officer to whom he reported findings of a covert intelligence-gathering exercise at the power utility. Since his first refusal to appear before the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in June, Brigadier Jap Burger has since retired from the police service.All parties present at Wednesday’s meeting agreed that they had been left with no choice but to request Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula to sign off on a subpoena.
