CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon’s father, George, founded McDonald’s Canada in the late 1960s. “When I was a little boy, my dad would take me and my brother to tour his restaurants.' StarTogether
If you were asked to name a truly iconic Canadian institution, would you choose the Canadian Football League? The Juno Awards? Mark Cohon, pictured here enjoying a bite on a sunny summer Sunday in 1972, would have a tough time choosing because these are just two of the things he has dug his teeth into since this photo was published in the Star 50 years ago.
Cohon believes this photo must have been taken during one their breaks. “Our reward was cheeseburgers and French fries,” he says with a smile. George wanted his sons to work hard but didn’t push them into the family business. “My parents encouraged my brother and me to pursue our own paths,” says Cohon, who went on to co-found the Georgian Bay Spirit Co., chair the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Juno Awards and Toronto Global , and sit on the board of Great Canadian Gaming.
